Our Mission

The Catalyst mission is to motivate a diverse membership to become educated about issues, find solutions, and work to implement those solutions. Since that first meeting over coffee, Catalyst has grown into a diverse group of more than 1,000 Birmingham area residents that all share the Catalyst vision to “Get civic, get hip, and have fun doing it!”

 

Our History

In late 2003, a small group of people began getting together regularly over coffee to discuss Birmingham and how they could make it better. The group discussed positive, progressive change in our city. The passion that everyone shared for improving the city and its surrounding region led to the creation of Catalyst.

About Catalyst

Catalyst was founded in late 2003 by a group of progressive citizens who met frequently to discuss issues affecting Birmingham.

 

Five years later, organizations across the metropolitan region call on Catalyst because of its relationships with emerging leaders and knowledge of cutting-edge public policy issues.

 

Catalyst empowers emerging leaders to make Birmingham a better place to live by giving them a platform to turn their dreams into reality. Some of Catalyst members’ achievements include:
